Overview

What the work involves

A well-specified cylinder makes a real difference to how your home feels: mains-pressure hot water at the shower, and enough of it when more than one outlet is running. We install and replace both vented (open-vent) and unvented (pressurised) cylinders.

Unvented cylinders are a controlled service. They store energy under pressure and must be installed and maintained by a qualified engineer with the correct certification. We fit the expansion vessel, safety valves and discharge pipework properly and commission the system so it's safe.

Old cylinder leaking, not heating, or too small for how you live now? We'll advise on the right replacement and swap it over with minimal disruption.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between a vented and unvented cylinder?
A vented cylinder is fed from a cold tank in the loft and runs at low pressure. An unvented cylinder is fed straight from the mains, so it delivers hot water at mains pressure, great for powerful showers, but it needs safety controls and a qualified engineer to install and service it. We fit both and will advise which suits your home.
Do unvented cylinders need servicing?
Yes. An annual check keeps the safety components working correctly and is usually required to keep the warranty valid. We can service it at the same time as your boiler.
